Celebrate apple season at the ISU Horticulture Research StationAMES, Iowa – Taste the first fruits of Iowa State University's new apple crop at an upcoming open house on Sept. 13, from noon to 2 p.m., at the ISU Horticulture Research Station.Growers and interested community members will have the opportunity to sample 10 apple cultivars not commonly found in grocery stores, enjoy fresh, local cider and fall donuts, as well as observe current apple research being done by Suzanne Slack, assistant professor and extension fruit crops specialist, and graduate students in the horticulture department.

A safety day for any Benton County students in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade is being planned for Saturday, September. 20. The event will run from 8:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Vinton. The Benton County Extension Service in conjunction with Progressive Agriculture, Benton County Farm Bureau and Vinton-Shellsburg FFA will provide workshops for the children.

Join Maverick and friends for Tori's Angels Fundraiser on September 7, 2025. From 12:00–3:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church located at 1206 C Ave.in Vinton, you can bring the kids and enjoy lunch and some fun for the kids!Events include:Lunch – free will offering. A mini carnival for the kids with games and a Bounce House for the kids - $5.

The Center Point Historical Society will hold a "Show and Shine," car show. From 2 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2025 you can see the cars, trucks and motorcycles at the Center Point Historical Society Depot Museum parking lot located at 700 E. Washington St. in Center Point. Cars, trucks and motorcycles welcome. The Depot Museum and Strait Log Cabin will also be open.
